Some in the Media are always begging for respect and honor.  The concept of the media or press as a fourth branch stems from a belief that the news media’s responsibility to inform the populace is essential to the healthy functioning of the democracy.  That is a solemn duty, indeed!  When I turn on the news I expect the news crew to have done their job well.  Way too often they fail.  Take Friday, June 02, 2017 Channel 7’s Hyde declared: “We all know well the Bible story which tells us that the Apostle Peter denied three times that he knew Jesus after the crucifixion.” I was totally shocked because I remember well the story about the three acts of denial of Jesus by the Apostle Peter as described in all four Gospels of the New Testament. Yes, all four Canonical Gospels state that during Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples, he predicted that Peter would deny knowledge of him, stating that Peter would disown him before the rooster crowed the next morning. Following the arrest of Jesus, Peter denied knowing him three times, but after the third denial, heard the rooster crow and recalled the prediction as Jesus turned to look at him. I absolutely cannot believe that the Channel 7 news crew is ignorant of a story told not once but four times, in the Good Book.  I do feel that they are totally careless, and disrespectful of the viewing public; they should apologize...  As to the call, Pope Francis is probably way too busy to deal with these dummies…

Interestingly, just the day before; June 1, 2017; Jules Vasquez said: “You think that its a deliberate way to send a message to your government to say “we the Americans who are very much against human trafficking are not happy with the performance of the Barrow administration” and they feel that the Barrow administration has facilitated human trafficking with this visa business and nationality business?”  I really wonder if Jules has any understanding of the mass movement of humans over the millenniums; particularly when force, fraud, or coercion is employed.  Recall the populating of the New World, and specifically Slavery – that was some serious human trafficking! Which countries owned or traded slaves?  I hope that Jules was watching Fox TV on Saturday, Feb. 04, 2017 and heard President Trump: “There are a lot of killers. You think our country’s so innocent?” As I think about any voluntary economic citizenship program, and particularly Belize’s, I keep saying that proper guidelines and procedures are essential.  The current hearing proves that without these, some unscrupulous ‘enterprising’ individuals will set up a hustle scheme.  I am very glad that the UDP government seeks to fix the system, once and for all!  I do not buy the lie that an economic citizenship program equates to human trafficking. Similarly, when it comes to money laundering- Belize is a victim. When it comes to the drug trade Belize is a geographic victim between producer and consumer.  Do not swallow every morsel of bait offered to you by the disingenuous, forked tongue… Think, and be on the lookout for the redirection of pathologies from the offending countries to innocent weaker ones!  Today, Germany wants to make hate speech illegal; England wants to change human rights laws!  Has anyone made the connection between Rush Limbaugh and his extreme right wing haters, to the mess that has overtaken the world?  The millions of legislators, judges, police, agents and spies gave the haters a free pass over the last five hundred-plus years… Do not encourage anyone to transfer their sins to small, poor, innocent, defenseless countries!

On Friday June 2nd the Amandala Editor wrote:” Guatemala threatens Belize’s very existence as an independent, sovereign state with all our territory intact.”   I doubt that Paco Smith, Chairman, Belize Progressive Party had read the editorial.  Later that same day he said: “One thing about the B.P.P. is that we stand firmly on our principles, and our principles are grounded in sound fact and due diligence. Our position has not changed with regard to the I.C.J.; in fact, you may not have heard from us more verbally in the past, but with limited resources we have to be strategic in how we go about doing things. So I have to let the public know that the B.P.P.’s position remains the same. And as the Government attempts to indoctrinate the public with their misinformation campaign, you can rest assured that the B.P.P. and our allies that share our view with regard to the pitfalls that await Belize if we go the route of voting to go to the I.C.J., we will mobilize and we shall put our best foot forward to continue to spread the word that Belize must vote no to the I.C.J., particularly in this current format.” Notice that he failed to specify the principles, what are they?  He did not name his allies, who are they?  He did not list the ‘pitfalls,’ what are they? Most importantly he did not tell us his plans to remove the Guatemalan threat.  Do you blame me for feeling that he and the BPP are bogus and have failed Belize completely?

On Tuesday June 6ththe Amandala Editor wrote:” … the judiciary includes the Police Department…” NO, Police falls under the Executive!  We really need journalists who do serious work so that when we turn on the news or pick up a paper; we expand our horizon…I do not turn on TV to hear foolishness nor do I pick up the paper to read crap.  Too often I have to be correcting the stories!  I cannot respect the sections of the press that gets it wrong every time!  Free press and partisan politics do not mix.

¡Told you Mose, Luke, Keisha and Kathleen… would hurt the students’ MATH and Science scores!
