On June 8, 2017, Belize City Police visited a residential yard in the Police Street area where they saw John Hoare suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

According to investigations, Hoare, a 50-year-old security guard of Simon Lamb Street, was sitting in the yard guarding slot machines owned by Princess Casino. He was approached by two male persons when one of them pulled out a gun and fired several shots at him.

The men then made off with his company firearm.

Hoare was rushed to the KHMH where he received medical treatment and is described to be in a critical state. Police investigations continue.
