Tevin Montero, who was unrepresented in court, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith on June 12, 2017 after spending two nights in police custody. He was charged with assaulting a police officer, using insulting words, and resisting arrest after police had to intervene in a fight at the corner of Black Orchid Boulevard and Riverside Street in the Saint Martin’s De Porres area. Montero pleaded guilty to all three charges. He is now on remand awaiting sentencing.

In a police report, PC Santiago Sam reported that he and another officer were conducting a motorcycle patrol in the Jane Usher Boulevard area when they received a call of a fight in progress at the corner of Black Orchid Boulevard and Riverside Street. Upon their arrival, the fight had already stopped. They approached a man that they say was acting unruly and that is when he used insulting words toward PC Sam and hit the officer twice. PC Sam said that he tried to subdue him and that is when Montero ran. The officer set chase behind him and managed to catch and escort him to the police station and charged him.
