Hener Cruz of Esperanza Village, Belize and Kyle Mynar of Texas have won the Texas Water Safari 2017 in the USCA C2 class in a time of 39 hours and 29 minutes.  The Texas Water Safari is known to be the toughest canoe race in the world since it is a 260 miles nonstop race with many dams and small falls where they have to portage.

This is the first time since 1997 that a team in the USCA C2 class has placed third overall.   Hener and Kyle beat the second place team in their USCA C2 class by 5 hours and 29 minutes.  A six men canoe in the unlimited class came in first overall while a tandem unlimited canoe came in second only beating Hener and Kyle by 30 minutes.  A total of 150 canoes entered the race in 13 different classes.  This is a record amount of entrants for the Texas Water Safari. Hener and Kyle beat the fourth place six men unlimited team by 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Special thanks have to be given to Kyle and his parents Joe and Renee Mynar for having hosted Hener during his stay in Texas and a great thanks to Joe and Renee who were Hener and Kyle’s team captains during the race.  They did an excellent job servicing the team and making the race as good as possible for them. Thanks also goes out to Rhonda and Drew for having done a great job in keeping Belizeans updated during the race by streaming videos and pictures on social media.  Also a huge thanks to all the fans both from Belize and USA for having given the team so much support during the race.

Hener’s next race will be the Ausable Canoe Marathon in Michigan on the 29th of July which he will do with Wade Binion of Texas.  These races are all beings sponsored by the following donors: Gold sponsors: NICH,,Belize Tourism Board, L.
