After what seems like a very long period, the loan with which the Commercial Center will be repaired has finally been approved. The repairs, as part of the Belize City House of Culture and Downtown Rejuvenation Project, were approved in 2014 and officially launched in 2015. The funding for the project expires in February 2018 and just in the nick of time, the Mayor got the approval letter for the loan from the Heritage Bank.

According to Mayor Bradley, there should be visible works starting in as early as two weeks. Crew will be working on the demolition of the Commercial Center and since the designs have been completed, the works can be done quickly. The project, according to the Mayor, should be completed or at least substantially worked on by late this year or early next year.

The loan will also be used to pay off some City Council debts.
