The 2016-2017 National Primary Schools Basketball championship came to an end on Thursday 15th June, 2017, with the games being played at the St. John’s College Gymnasium in Belize City.

In the girls’ championship game, St. Joseph Primary School representing the Belize District defeated Louisiana Government School representing the Orange Walk District by the score of 32-4 to capture its first ever National Primary Schools Basketball championship.

The top scorer for St. Joseph Primary School was Briah Clarke with 18 points while the top scorers for Louisiana Government School were Kiara Chimilio and Rica Gentle with 2 points each.

In the third place game played, Holy Family Roman Catholic School from Hopkins Village, representing the Stann Creek District defeated St. Francis Xavier School from Esperanza Village, representing the Cayo District by the score of 17-12 to capture the bronze medals. The top scorer for Holy Family RC School was Shendra Casimirio with 15 points while the top scorer for St. Francis Xavier School was Shakinah Myers with 4 points.

In the first game in the semi-final round, St. Joseph Primary School defeated Holy Family RC School by the score of 24-14. The top scorer for St. Joseph Primary School was Afeni Lamb with 15 points while the top scorers for Holy Family RC School were Shendra Casimiro and Ashira Miranda with 6 points each.

In the second game, Louisiana Government School defeated St. Francis Xavier School by the score of 9-6. The top scorer for Louisiana Government School was Kira Chimilo with 7 points and the top scorer for St. Francis Xavier School was Lucy Anthony with 4 points.

In the first game of the championship played, St. Francis Xavier School defeated Punta Gorda Methodist School representing the Toledo District by the score of 24-0. The top scorer for St. Francis Xavier School was Allyeisha Bowman with 8 points.

In game two, St. Joseph Primary School won handily over Libertad Methodist School representing the Corozal District by the score of 60-0. The top scorer for St. Joseph Primary School was Briah Clarke with 34 points.

In the third game of the day, Holy Family RC School won over PG Methodist School by the score of 20-5. The top scorer for Holy Family RC School was Shendra Casimiro with 16 points and the top scorer for PG Methodist School was Jasmin Griffith with 3 points.

In game four, St. Joseph Primary School defeated Louisiana Government School by the score of 24-2. The top scorers for St. Joseph Primary School were Briah Clarke and Afeni Lamb with 12 points each.

In game five, St. Francis Xavier School defeated Holy Ghost RC School by the score of 12-9. The top scorer for St. Francis Xavier School was Allyeisha Bowman with 6 points while the top scorer for Holy Family RC School was Shendra Casimiro with 7 points.

And in the final game of the first round of the championship, Louisiana Government School won over Libertad Methodist School by the score of 29-0. The top scorer for Louisiana Government School was Amanda Bowen with 10 points.

At the end of the championship, Briah Clarke of St. Joseph Primary School of Belize City was named the Most Valuable Player.
