People’s last words are considered to be their most important. In the Gospel of John, the apostle writes about what Jesus said before His crucifixion. What Jesus spoke about included the subject of love and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told us in John 15:9 that, “Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.” Jesus knew that there will be many things which can distract us from our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

We find it easy to seek God during desperate situations, because we know we need Him. But when we have all we need it is only a few people who keep seeking God. That is why our life may keep going round in cycles of plenty and extreme lack. When things go bad we draw near to God, and when things get better we have no time for Him. Some of us think we will never do that, but we have to consider our motive for asking God for things. Is it so that we can be free to do whatever we like, or so we will lean on Him more to show us what next? This is how we can know if we are serving God out of love or just desperation.

Let’s all pray that the success God gives us will not cause us to take a detour from the path of relationship with Him and the plans He has for us.
