On June 27, 2017, police responded to shots being fired on Kings Street, in front of Teddy’s Music and DVD Rental in Belize City. There they saw the body of 36-year-old Jermaine Franklin of Fabers Road, Extension lying on the pavement with gunshot wounds to the back.

Investigations reveal that at 6:25 p.m., Franklin was inside the store when a male person walked inside and fired several shots at him. Police response led to the detention of the person who is believed to have been the perpetrator. Franklin’s body was transported to the  K.H.M.H.

As a result, a Belize City man is on remand at the Belize Central Prison. According to police, the gunman has been identified as 25-year-old Kashief Gallego, a resident of Belize City. Gallego was captured on surveillance camera where he was seen twice. He was last seen chasing his target before gunning him down as he ran and exited the music shop.

At his arraignment on June 23, 2017, Gallego was unrepresented and appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser. Due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken and he was remanded into custody until July 11, 2017.
