Shandoy Jeffords, a 32-year-old ex-inmate at the Belize Central Prison, has managed to beat an attempted murder charge after he tried to slit the throat of his prison mate, 30-year-old Pedro Pech in June 2013.

Allegations are that on June 18, 2013, Jeffords cut Pech’s throat with a razor in the recreational hall of Tango 11 at the Belize Central Prison. The incident erupted after Pech was given cash to hand over to Jeffords by Jeffords’ brother. Pech never handed the money over to Jeffords. The men had it out because of their differences and it was then that Pech was injured. A doctor had classified his injury as wounding.

Jeffords appeared before Supreme Court Judge Adolph Lucas on June 26, 2017. The prosecution’s main witness was the victim who told the court that he had no interest in continuing the case.

Jeffords’ attorney, Peta Gay, made a no case submission to the court asking the judge to acquit her client of the charge.
