A thief was caught red handed by an ex-police officer who saw him snatching a woman’s purse. The purse snatcher has been identified as 22-year-old Renick Dominguez, an unemployed resident of Biscayne Village.Dominguez appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser where he was unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft.

Allegations are that on Monday, June 26, 2017, he stole from Alisha Chan, an LG cell phone valued at $600. Chan was waking on Freetown when Dominguez grabbed her cellphone. An ex-police officer saw the entire incident and caught up with Dominguez who held him down until police officers came and Dominguez was handed over.

In court, Prosecutor Christopher Smith had objected to bail being granted on several grounds. He asked the court to take into consideration the prevalence of the crime, the fact that there is strong evidence against Dominguez, and that it was an ex-police officer who saw him, held him, and handed him over to the police. Senior Magistrate Fraser agreed and denied bail to Dominguez and remanded him to the Belize Central Prison until July 28, 2017.
