The Belize District Basketball Association 2017 Firms’ Competition opened on Friday 23rd June, at the St. Martin de Porres Swift Hall in Belize City. There are nine (9) teams participating in this year’s competition- Belize Bank Bulldogs, Belize Telemedia Ltd., Central Health Department/Fire Service, Dragons, The Kings, Grace Kings, INFOTEL/Mars Distributors, Mayan Man Warriors and Tuff e Nuff.

For this year’s competition, games are scheduled to be played on Fridays and Saturdays with the first game commencing at 7:00 pm.

On Friday 23rd June, in the opening game of the competition, the Belize Bank Bulldogs defeated BTL by the score of 82-78. The top scorers for the Belize Bank Bulldogs were Roscoe Rhys with 22 points, Lincey Lopez with 18 points and Roderick Williams with 15 points. For the Belize Telemedia Ltd squad, the top scorers were Jason Vasquez with 23 points, Lennox Bowman with 16 points and Jason Lamb with 12 points.

In the second game of the evening, Dragons upended INFOTEL/Mars Distributors by the score of 84-60. The top scorers for Dragons were, Akeem Watters with 21 points, Steve Bonnell with 11 points and Eyan Defour who also contributed 11 points towards the win. Meanwhile, the top scorers for the INFOTEL/Mars Distributors team were Elton Anderson with 18 points and Elvis Olivera with 16 points.

The competition continued on Saturday 24th June, with two more games on the schedule. In game one, The Kings blasted Grace Kings by the score of 99-35.

The top scorers for The Kings were Farron Louriano with 18 points; Jacob Leslie also scored 18 points and Jorett Jones who scored 17 points. For Grace Kings, the top scorers were James Witty with 11 points and Wayne Garbutt with 9 points.

And in the second and final game of the evening, Mayan Man Warriors edged out Tuff e Nuff by the score of 63-61.

The top scorers for Mayan Man Warriors were Marvin Skeet with 13 points, William Black with 12 points and Brandon Rogers with 9 points. For Tuff e Nuff, the top scorers were Tyrone Edwards with 15 points, Linford Flores with 14 points and Raul Roches who scored 13 points all in a losing cause.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule. On Friday 30th June at 7:00 pm in game one, INFOTEL/Mars Distributors will go up against The Kings and in the night cap Grace Kings will see actions against Tuff e Nuff.

On Saturday 1st July at 7:00 pm. Belize Bank Bulldogs will go up against Central Health Department/Fire Service and in the final game of the evening; it will be BTL against Dragons.
