The Board of Directors of The Ariel Rosado Foundation, established in January 2012, is celebrating five and a half years of service to Belize and expresses appreciation to all those who made this milestone possible. The Foundation was established to celebrate the life of Ariel Rosado, an outstanding Belizean who died in a road traffic accident at age 28.

In its first year, the Foundation offered a total of 15 scholarships. In 2013, the number of scholarships increased to 27. In the subsequent years, the scholarships went from 30, 33, and then 34 in 2016.

For 2017, the Foundation is pleased to announce an increase to 46 scholarships. Ten primary school students to learn to sail with the Belize Sailing Association, thirty four secondary school scholarships will be awarded to cover the full cost of fees and books, and two tuition scholarships to Galen University, Belize’s premier private university, will be rewarded.

This year, the secondary school scholarships have been awarded to students from 16 different secondary schools throughout the country. The Foundation is pleased to recognize the Belize Social Security Board, Belize Electricity Limited, UNICOMER (Belize) Ltd, Belize Telecommunications Limited, and the Wet Lizard Restaurant as corporate sponsors.

The scholarships will be formally presented at The Radisson Fort George Hotel on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 am. The guest speaker will be Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams. Presentations will also be made by Outstanding Foundation Scholar, Heidey Canales, who graduated from Pallotti High School earlier this year as one of the top students. Canales will be attending Galen University as an Ariel Rosado Foundation Scholar in September. Leah Coye, who has topped her class for three consecutive years and will be entering 4th Form at Stann Creek Ecumenical High School in September, will also make a presentation at the event .
