After two nights in police custody, 36-year-old Cecil Gill, who had surrendered to police on July 18, 2017 pending a charge of murder for the alleged stabbing of his friend, Phillip Michael Samuels, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on July 21, 2017. Gill appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser where he was read a single charge of murder.

Allegations made against Gill are that on Monday, July 17, 2017, he murdered 31-year-old Phillip Michael Samuels during a stabbing incident. Sources say that before Samuels was stabbed, he and his friend Gill had an altercation which led to a fight. The incident allegedly occurred over a misunderstanding two women had where one of the women turned her attention to Gill. Gill had uttered some words to him and that was when the woman pursued Gill and a fight ensued. Samuels intervened and was stabbed to death.

In court, where he was unrepresented, no plea was taken from Gill since the charge of murder is an indictable one. He was remanded to prison until September 27, 2017.
