The XVII Central American U-20 Female Volleyball championship that was being hosted by the Belize Volleyball Association and played from July 19-22, 2017, at the St. Catherine Mercy Centre in Belize City came to an end on Saturday 22nd July with the final game played between Belize and Nicaragua.

In the final match of the championship, Nicaragua defeated Belize in 3 sets by the score of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-16. With the loss to Nicaragua, Belize finished in the 5th position behind Costa Rica who repeated as the Central American U-20 champions, Honduras who finished in 2nd place, Guatemala in 3rd place, Nicaragua in 4th place, El Salvador in 6th place and Panama who finished in the 7th position.

Earlier in the day, Belize defeated Panama in 3 sets by the score of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-20.

On Friday 21st July, Belize after playing its best game of the championship the night before against the budding champions Costa Rica fell to Guatemala in 3 sets by the score of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-15.

In the final game of the championship played on Thursday 20th July, Costa Rica won over Belize in 5 sets by the score of 24-26, 25-17, 25-15, 22-25 and 15-2.

And on Wednesday 19th July, Belize loss to Honduras in 4 sets by the score of 25-22, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-20.

Team Belize finished the championship with a 2-4 record.

Immediately following the final game of the championship, the Official Closing, Ceremony took place, which included the medals and Individual Trophies presentation.

The following players received individual trophies for top performances during the championship:

BEST SERVER: #1 of HON, Ruth Aguilar, avg of 1.09 ace/set.

BEST RECEIVER: #5 of CRC, Edya Espinoza, 27.6% eff.

BEST SETTER: #14 of GUA, Carmen Gomez, 4.8 good sets/set.

BEST OUTSIDE ATTACKER 1: #5 of CRC, Edya Espinoza, 33.6%.

BEST OUTSIDE ATTACKER 2: #11 of GUA, Paola Alvarado, 33.5%.

(NOTE: #8 Nathaly Perez of HON (41.5%) & #8 Dalia Conto of NCA (34.2%) had better kill % but they are middle blockers and not outside hitters).

BEST MIDDLE BLOCKER 1: #5 of ESA, Adriana Dubon, 1.05 block/set.

BEST MIDDLE BLOCKER 2: #8 of HON Nathaly Perez, 0.95 blocks/set

BEST DEFENSE: #8, Libero of CRC, Maria Castro, 3.6 good digs/set.

BEST LIBERO: #10 of NCA, Leona Carcache, 3.57 good digs/set (2nd overall) & 25.6% good receptions/set (2nd overall)

BEST OPPOSITE: #4 of NCA, Maria Campos, was the highest ranked scorer playing opposite position.

BEST SCORER: #8 of HON, Nathaly Perez, 99 pts (71 spike, 21 block, 7 aces)

MVP: #5 of CRC, Edya Espinoza, 2nd best scorer (96 pts), best OH, best receiver, 2nd best server, top 10 digger.


Kori Diego was 3rd best scorer at 94 pts (only 5 pts off 1st). She was top spike scorer with 79 kills.

Mya Musa was 5th best scorer at 79 pts (65 kills).

Allyana Musa was 2nd best setter at 3.9 good sets/set.
