Keenan Anthony Flores, a 23-year-old Dangriga man visiting his girlfriend in the city, was allegedly found with a large amount of cocaine over the weekend.

According to police, on Saturday, July 29, 2017, acting on information, members of the Mobile Interdiction Team visited Tibruce Street in the St. Martin’s area. Upon arrival, they saw a blue GMC parked in front of a wooden house. PC Martinez approached a man that was standing in front of the yard and asked if that man resided at the house to which he claimed to occupy the lower flat. Another man and woman were in the yard and were asked questions pertaining to the user of the vehicle. His name was learnt to be Keenan Flores.

Flores was approached and informed that a search for illegal drugs and ammunition would be done on his person and in the vehicle. Nothing incriminating was found on him but after searching the GMC, two parcels were found on the floor behind the passenger seat.

Both parcels were cut open in the presence of Flores. PC Lorenzo observed a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. He was found with a total of 2,236 grams of the substance.

Since the bust, he was in police custody until Monday, July 31, 2017 when he was brought before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser where he was read a single charge of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

In court, where he was unrepresented, he pleaded not guilty to the charge but due to the quantity of the substance, he was automatically denied bail and remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until October 6, 2017. Even though he was denied bail, Flores’ family has intention of filing a bail application at the Supreme Court.
