A Dangriga man who was accused of murder was acquitted of the charge on July 26, 2017 in the Dangriga Supreme Court before Justice Denis S. Hanomansingh. He is Nisani Garcia who was accused of the murder of Hansel Garcia which occurred on April 23, 2014 at about 8:00 p.m.

At his acquittal, Garcia was represented by attorney Tricia Pitts.

Hansel Garcia was shot at multiple times but the fatal bullet made its way into his back. According to Hansel, who lived for a few days after being shot, he was walking in Castillo Alley when he got shot at. According to him, he was ambushed by Nisani Garcia who inflicted the gunshots.

Despite the deceased’s testimony, the judge was of the view that the lighting condition on the night of the shooting incident was too poor for Hansel to have made out his attacker. Judge Hanomansingh believes that Hansel could have been making a mistake in the identity of the shooter.

After three years on remand, Nisani Garcia was free to return home.
