Nevis Betancourt arrested and charged for murder Print E-mail

After receiving treatment in the hospital for his injuries in an altercation that has left a man dead, Nevis Betancourt has been released and formally arrested and charged for the death of said man.

On July 27, 2017, San Ignacio Police saw the body of Jose Leonardo Nunez Castellanos, a 37-year-old Honduran construction worker, face down under a business establishment. Castellanos’ body was seen with apparent gunshot wounds which he received during an altercation with Betancourt. Castellanos inflicted a chop wound to Betancourt during the altercation which caused Betancourt to draw his licensed 9 mm pistol. Several shots were fired in Castellanos’ direction and one shot was fatal. A post mortem examination on the body of Castellanos certified the cause of death as asphyxiation due to trachea aspiration due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Betancourt sough medical attention for the wound which was inflicted by Castellanos and it was not until Wednesday, August 9, 2017 that he was formally arrested and charged for the crime of murder.
