Two of three men believed to have been involved in an armed robbery in the Lord’s Bank area were arraigned on August 9, 2017 in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. They have been identified as 18-year-old Steve Ferrel of a Belize City address and 23-year-old Veris Ventura, originally from Hopkins Village.

The duo appeared before Magistrate Aretha Ford where they were each read a single charge of robbery with a firearm. In court where they were both unrepresented, Ferrel and Ventura pleaded not guilty but due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied and they were both remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 18, 2017.

Allegations against the men are that on Monday, August 7, 2017, the duo along with a third not yet arrested stole from Chun Mei Liu, businesswoman in Lord’s Bank Village, by use of force, while armed with a firearm. Stolen were a Samsung Galaxy S5 cell phone valued at $400, a Samsung flip phone valued at $50, $50 in coins, and $200 in cash. According to Liu, she was at Brother’s Store when the men entered the shop and demanded money. One of the men hit her in the head with the gun and the others proceeded to rob the items.

Minutes later, Ferrel was detained by police in the area. His arrest was followed by that of Ventura’s.
