Carlos Coronado was intercepted by police when he walking from East Collect Canal to West Collect canal heading towards the Novelo’s bus terminal on August 13, 2017. He was found to be in possession of 1,149 grams of cannabis, over two pounds of weed. He was arrested and charged with drug trafficking.

Coronado, a Belize City laborer, appeared in court before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza on August 14, 2017 to answer to a single charge of drug trafficking. He was unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to the charge. There was no objection to bail and he received it in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount.

Coronado’s next court date is set for October 20, 2017. If he is convicted of drug trafficking, Coronado is facing a 3-year prison term, a fine of $10,000, or both the fine and confinement.
