Our topic this week is “Be Positive Minded.” In the Old Testament book of the prophet Jeremiah, chapter 15, verse 16, we read: “As your words came to me I drank them in, and because I belong to you.”

Television Preacher and author Joyce Meyer said, “Thinking positive in a negative situation is the best thing you can do for yourself.” This is because no matter what we do we can never eliminate all the problems in our life. As long as we are on earth we will never have the perfection we desire. If we fail to think positively, we will end up always trying to look for something in which to drown our sorrows. This is what is normally referred to as coping mechanisms.

The main things people use are food, alcohol, drugs and overworking themselves. Drugs have several unpleasant side effects including total mental breakdown. The alcohol clouds judgment, and causes people to do things they will not normally do. The Bible encourages us not to be drunk on wine, but to be drunk with the Holy Spirit. This is to teach us that the Holy Spirit can help us to be immune to our problems.

Too much food causes obesity, which leads to many diseases. But Jesus said his food is to do the will of the Father and this should become our source of satisfaction. The word of God should be our daily bread to encourage, rebuke, train, and correct us to salvation. The Bible provides everything we need to help us deal with every situation, whether good or bad.

Remember: Drown your sorrows in the Word of God, for it will always lift you up.
