On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, Councilor Dion Leslie, made a donation valued at $1,000 to the landscaping program at the Samuel Haynes Institute of Excellence. There to receive the donation of hoses, sprayer, wheelbarrows, and an array of shovels and hoes was Hon. Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Area Representative of the Pickstock division.

The program has somewhere around 55 members and it is the intention of Leslie to superimpose the blueprint of the program to include more people, even outside Pickstock. Leslie is looking for an expansion of the program throughout the city which will include single mothers and fathers as well as having a positive effect on the city.

Apart from giving these people the physical tools with which to be productive, they will also be given the tools to run their own small businesses under the small business desk of the council, which will, undoubtedly, be giving back to their community.

Leslie said that he has been reconnecting with city residents. While he has been doing this residents have thus far expressed concerns with regards to proper drainage and streets, the development of jobs, and proper sanitation. Through the donation, the members of the program can instill skills in persons even outside the program to promote proper sanitation and beautification
