A Zone 4 neighborhood watch group activity under the leadership of Captain Samuel Bruce concluded last Friday in Benque Viejo.  As a result, Inspector Stephanie from the Benque Police Formation proceeded to hand out certificates of completion to the children of the zone 4 summer camp, followed by volunteers serving a delicious meal to all.

Since 2008 the Zone 4 Benque Viejo Neighborhood watch has been very active with various community events. Among their signatory event is the annual Children’s Summer Camp offered free of charge to hundreds of children. Among the activities this year were arts & crafts, sports, educational lectures, and implementing community policing programs such as the GREAT program.

Joining this year as volunteers were instructor zone lieutenant  Isela Tesucum and zone lieutenant Ricky Cunil. They were also joined by volunteers Paulino Lopez,  Leandra Chulin, Armando Chulin, Garfield Murillo, Rafael Martinez, and food chefs’  Criselda Diaz, Marta Raix, & Juri Del Cid.

Special Guests for the summer camp at the Sam’s Community Park were Corporal Joshua McKoy, an international   GREAT program instructor and commander of community policing unit at the Benque Police Formation.  He was joined by deputy of community policing unit WPC Coleman, Pastor Isaiss Melgar, Belmopan K9 Unit, WPC Eden Jones, PC Willam Sanchez and Cpl. Dennson  Longsworth. Cpl. Longsworth held  an exhibition of a drug recovery using a dog.

The Ministry of Health was represented by Emma Gabriel McKoy at the camp, who lectured on children’s self esteem.  Gemma Catzim also came to talk on the importance of a nutritional diet. Cpl. McKoy engaged the children with the principles of the GREAT PROGRAM and issues of peer pressure and anger management, interspersed with educational games as a motivator.

4H club speaker Garfield Murillo spoke about the importance of watershed protection within our environment,  brought along with instructional messages on posters made by the children.

Zone Captain Samuel Bruce made it know to the crowd that the summer camp, would not be possible without the help from the dedicated volunteers & sponsors that come together each year. He made special recognition to Isela Tesucum and Cpl. Joshua McKoy for their undying support over the years.

Making the zone 4 camp possible this year was BRC, Atlantic Bank, Vega’s Distributor’s, Econo Diesel, Dr. Lesbia Cocom, Quality Poultry, Western Dairies, Farmer’s Trading Center, New Flags, Country Meats, Lin’s Super Market, Uno Gas Station Benque, Novelo’s gas station, Chuc’s Service Station, Caribbean Tire Co, Riemer’s Feed Mill, Hot Mama’s, Western Home Supply, Ceiba Realty, Rocky’s distributors, De Zin Grocery, Zu Guan Qi Restaurant, Westrac, Universal Hardware, MidWest Steel, Long Lucky Supermarket and Zhen’s Supermarket. These entities were also joined for a fruitful camp by Alex Store, Lin’s Mini market, Cocom’s Vegetable & Fruits market,  Yao Goangs Store, Mini Shop, XU supermarket, Jacky’s store, Yi Ming Restaurant, Custom’s Department, Western Border, Home Protector Insurance, Gitz office supply, A & R office supply, Emily Lins store, Simmon store, Energy 4 Life Program, Reginalda Castillo, Crown Jewelry & Pawn, Cave Word Adventures, Atlantian Realty and DBA Central American Realty.
