Verdes FC and Police United win in Premier League of Belize Football competition Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize 2017-2018 Football Opening Season continued over the last weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Saturday 19th August, out at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro Town, the host team San Pedro Pirates FC and the visiting Belize Defence Force FC played to a 1-1 draw. The goal for the visiting Belize Defence Force FC was scored by Hector Martinez while the goal for the San Pedro Pirates FC was scored by Jarren Lambey.

At the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the visiting Bandits Sports and the Placencia Assassins FC played to a 1-1 draw.

The visiting Bandits Sports was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Kervin Johnson scored the 1st goal of the game in the 49th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, the host team Placencia Assassins FC was able to penetrate the Bandits Sports defence when Luis Torres scored the equalising goal for his team in the 69th minute of play via a penalty kick. At the end of the long whistle it was indeed a 1-1 draw.

On Sunday 20th August, 2017, at the Victor Sanchez Union Stadium in Punta Gorda Town, Verdes FC defeated the home team Freedom Fighters FC by the score of 4-1.

The home team Freedom Fighters were the first to get onto the scoreboard when Leary Simon scored the 1st goal of the game in the 15th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived as Elroy Kuylen scored the equalising goal for the visiting Verdes FC in the 23rd minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

Verdes FC then took the lead when Alcides Thomas scored his team go-ahead goal in the 39th minute of play and from that point Verdes FC never did looked back.

In the second half of the game, Verdes’ Jarret Davis scored his team 3rd goal of the game in the 53rd minute of play to increase the lead by the score of 3-1. The final goal of the game was scored by Ricardo Jimenez in the 88th minute of play to give Verdes FC the 4-1 victory.

And out at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, Police United FC blanked Wagiya FC by the score of 4-0.

The goals for Police United were scored by Daniel Jimenez in the 28th and 86th minutes of play; Carlton Thomas in the 52nd minute of play and Devon Makin in the 62nd minute of play.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule.
