San Ignacio Police continue to work in capturing the hearts and minds of the Belizean people. Members of the Community Oriented Policing Program COPP, an entire division at San Ignacio Police dedicated to building community partnerships, recently fanned out to clean a two mile stretch from Esperanza to Central Farm in the Cayo District.

In appreciation for that initiative, Mr. Escandar Bedran from Running W sponsored a meal for the COPP team at the Jalapenos Restaurant on the Benque Viejo Road. Both the Mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena Earl Trapp Junior and Officer in Charge of San Ignacio Police Richard Rosado joined in to greet the COPP team.

But that was not the end of the working day for COPP. The division of police officers then proceeded to the residence of 95 year old Emilio Novelo, who was a long time employee within the Public Works Department, manually building roads across Belize. There the police officers cleaned the yard of Mr. Novelo.

“We will continue to do this more often, just to show the positive side of the police and then to show that the police is not only about work, but also to give back to the community, the community service and to maintain the cordial relationship with the police, ” says corporal Ciriaco Medina, head of the COPP team.
