A deadly shooting occurred in the Lindo’s Alley area of Conch Shell Bay which has left one dead and one injured. A third victim in the same shooting managed to escape the gunmen.

In connection to the murder and attempted murder, two men have been arrested and charged in Belize City. The men, 26-year-old Orlando Salazar and 21-year-old Joel Choco, were arraigned on Monday, August 28, 2017 before the acting Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser.

Salazar, an unemployed resident of South Creek, and Choco, a construction worker of Taylor’s Alley, were read one count of murder for the August 24, 2017 murder of Windell Gibson and one count of attempted murder of Keron Santos. In court where they were unrepresented, no plea was taken for the indictable offenses. As a result, they were both remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 30, 2017.

The allegation against the duo is that on Thursday, August 24, 2017, Gibson and another man were double riding on a bicycle when they were approached by a gunman who opened fire. According to eyewitness, the man on the handlebar managed to escape into a nearby yard while Gibson died on the spot.

The gunmen pursued the man that ran off and shot at him but missed.
