Jose and Sarbelo Marroquin, two brothers, were arraigned on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Belize City Magistrate for the murder of Scott Charles which occurred on August 16, 2017. They appeared before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza where they were represented by attorney “Dickie” Bradley.

No plea was taken due to the nature of the offense and they were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 25, 2017 for their next court appearance which will be in San Pedro.

There has recently been a spike in shootings on San Pedro. Charles was at his home when he responded to a knock on the door that resulted in a spray of bullets that would end his life. He succumbed to his injuries a few hours after.

Also recent was the shooting that left two primary school children and an adult, Lloyd Tyndell, injured. In that case, Christian Espat was charged with two counts of attempted murder. Espat had been to the court frequently to seek bail but was each time denied until August 25, 2017 when he was granted Supreme Court bail of $10,000 plus one surety of the same.

He was represented by attorney “Dickie” Bradley and granted bail by Justice Adolph Lucas despite objection from DPP representative Jacqueline Willoughby. Espat is expected back in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court in September.
