Belize Defence Force FC and Police United FC win in PLB games over the weekend Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize 2017 Opening Season continued over the last weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Saturday 26th August, at the MCC Grounds, the host team Belize Defence Force FC blanked the three times defending champions, Bandits Sports by the score of 1-0.

The only goal of the game was scored by Shane Flores in the 86th minute of play to give the Belize Defence Force the victory and an early lead in this year’s Opening Season.

Meanwhile, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the Placencia Assassins FC and San Pedro Pirates FC played to a 1-1 draw.

The host team Placencia Assassins FC, was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Rollin Burgess scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 22nd minute of play to give it a 1-0 lead, a lead that the team took into the half time.

It was not until well into the second half of the game that the visiting San Pedro Pirates FC was able to penetrate the Placencia Assassins FC defence when in the 57th minute of play, Andrew Allen scored his team’s equalising goal to tie the score at 1-1.

At the sound of the long whistle it was indeed a 1-1 tie.

The competition continued on Sunday 27th August, 2017, with two more games on the schedule.

At the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, Wagiya picked up its first win of the 2017 campaign when it edged out the host team the Freedom Fighters by the score of 3-1.

The visiting Wagiya FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Krisean Lopez scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 38th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was further increase when Aaron Lopez scored his first of two goals in the 48th minute of play to give his team a 2-0 lead. Lopez then scored his second goal and the final goal of the game for his team in the 60th minute of play to extend the lead to 3-0.

However, the Freedom Fighters was able to cut the deficit when Leary Simon scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 65th minute of play via a penalty kick to bring the score to a 3-1 affair.

And at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Police United FC blanked Verdes FC by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Carlton Thomas in the 7th minute of play.

The competition will continue this coming weekend.
