The San Ignacio Police Formation football cup marathon concluded last Sunday with several clear winners.  First  place in the marathon was won by the Santa Familia foot ball team, second place by Flames football team from San Ignacio and the third place was won by another team from Santa Familia. The marathon was held for four consecutive weekends in the month of August

The sponsors for the marathon were J & G company through Pepsi and Juan Polanco. The coordinators for the month long marathon were Mr. Dabo Carillo and San Ignacio COPP unit. Trophies and medals were also issued by San Ignacio Police Formation Commanding Officer Superintendent Richard Rosado last Sunday.

This marathon was done as a way to engage the youths during their summer break from school and as a way to promote a healthy alternative that embraces team work and sportsmanship; all in an effort to build the community and police relationship.

Ten teams participated in the marathon. In moving forward, the San Ignacio Police formation intends to hold the marathon on an annual basis.

Architect Juan Polanco, who was one of the marathon sponsors in his most recent post has expressed,

“It was nice partnering with our Police Department in sponsoring the summer cup in Santa Familia Village….Below the ‘Under 14’ champs from San Ignacio and Sub Champs from Santa Familia. When you see the kids playing as a TEAM you don’t need any pro-football game to get entertained. Want good for Belize? Invest in the kids. Thanks again to our Police Department and to David Carrillo ‘Chacal’ for coordinating and exciting summer entertainment for our Kids. The finals were so good they ended up in Penalties!” Superintendent Richard Rosado has also responded with positive reviews on the recently held football marathon.

“It was a pleasure for the San Ignacio Police Formation to partner with you Mr. Juan Polanco. You Sir really show the love for our youths in our community, thanks. I would also like to acknowledge Dabo Carrillo for coordinating the marathon, the San Ignacio Police Formation COPP Unit, and their commander Corporal Medina and big up to Pepsi for the sponsorship.”
