Over 2 kilograms of cocaine found inside a blue GMC Jimmy Blazer more than a month ago turned out to be pure sugar. The allegation was made against 23-year-old Keenan Flores who has been on remand at the Belize Central Prison since the incident on July 31, 2017.

Flores has since been freed after getting the news before Magistrate Aretha Ford. Before the magistrate, the charge was withdrawn from against Flores by prosecutor in the case, Cpl. Christopher Smith. A memorandum from the forensic analyst certified that the content that was suspected to be cocaine is actually sugar.

The bust took place on Tibruce Street where Flores was visiting his girlfriend’s home in a borrowed vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two parcels behind the front passenger seat. The parcels, which were both taped up, were opened and a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine was found. The contents were weighed and amounted to 2,236 grams.

In light of the situation, Flores has been freed from prison and freed of the charge.
