Verdes FC early leaders in the PLB Football Opening Season Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize 2017 Opening Season competition continued over the weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Saturday 2nd September, at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro Town, the host team San Pedro Pirates FC blanked the visiting Freedom Fighters by the score of 2-0.

The goals for the San Pedro Pirates FC were scored by Luis Alchnovic in the 45th minute of play and Hector Martinez in the 90th minute of play to give the San Pedro Pirates its first win of the 2017 campaign.

While at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the defending champions Bandits Sports edged out the visiting Police United by the score of 3-2.

The defending champions, Bandits Sports, was the first to make it unto the scoreboard when Jerome James scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 17th minute of play to give his team an early lead. However, the Police United squad was able to cut into that lead when Devon Makin scored the equalising goal for his team in the 37th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. In the closing minutes of the first half of the game, Bandits Sports was able to penetrate the Police United defence when Carlos Gonzalez scored his team go-ahead goal in the 45th minute of play to give the Bandits Sports squad a 2-1 lead.

In the second half of the game, Police United’s Amin August, scored his team equalising goal in the 61st minute of play to once again tie the score at 2-2. The final goal of the game was scored by the Bandits Sports’ Darwin Bermudez in the 65th minute of play to give his team a 3-2 victory.

The competition then continued on Sunday 3rd September, with two more games on the schedule.

At the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the host team Verdes FC picked up its third win of the young campaign and an early lead in the competition when it defeated the visiting Belize Defence Force by the score of 3-1.

All 3 goals for Verdes FC were scored by Aleides Thomas with the 1st goal scored in the 38th minute of play via a penalty kick. Thomas’ 2nd goal was scored in the 42nd minute of play that gave his team a 2-0 lead.

Aleides Thomas final goal was scored in the 53rd minute of play via a penalty kick that gave Verdes FC a commanding 3-0 lead. The visiting Belize Defence Force was able to score when Ricky Ricketts penetrated the Verdes FC defence and scored his goal in the 72nd minute of play. However, at the sound of the long whistle, Verdes FC proved to be too much for the BDF FC and was able to preserve the 3-1 victory.

In the final game of the day at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the host team Wagiya and the visiting Placencia Assassins FC played to a 2-2 draw.

The visiting Placencia Assassins FC was the first to make it unto the scoreboard when Ashton Torres scored the 1st goal of the game in the 4th minute of play to give his team an early lead. The lead was further increase when Luis Torres scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 45th minute of play via a penalty kick.

It was well into the second half of the game that Wagiya was able to get unto the scoreboard when Hector Gomez scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 50th minute of play via a penalty kick to cut the deficit into half.

Byron Chavez scored the equalising goal for the host team Wagiya in the 63rd minute of play to tie the score at 2-2.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule.
