On Thursday, September 7th, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hon. Patrick Faber, was busy in the southern part of the country as ribbons were cut for the opening of two new pre schools, a new primary school and a new extension to an existing primary school.

Financed by government through the Social Investment Fund, Santa Cruz received a new pre-school along with a new primary school. The village of Santa Cruz is a growing one in the Stann Creek district and residents have long been clamoring for a school of their own and the government made good on a promise to construct such a school and pre school in that community.

Moving further south, in the Toledo district, ribbons were cut for the extension to the Trio Government School as well as a new pre school in that community. The situation in Trio was one where children were overcrowded in the existing school and there was a great need for expansion and government delivered.

The construction of the new school as well as the pre schools are part of the Government of Belize’s work to ensure that education is made available to children in rural areas following studies which pinpointed where the construction of schools would be most impactful.
