A Belize City construction worker en route to San Pedro on September 9, 2017 was found in possession of cannabis while at the San Pedro Express Water Taxi terminal. He is 19-year-old Dornell Talbert of Belize City.

Talbert, who was unrepresented before Magistrate Aretha Ford, was read two criminal charges, one count of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply 61.1 grams of cannabis, a charge of drug trafficking for this amount, and a charge of possession of a controlled drug where he was found with 41 grams of cannabis. In court on September 12, 2017, he pleaded guilty to possession. He was fined $600 to be paid by November 12, 2017 in default of 6 months’ imprisonment.

For the charge of drug trafficking, Talbert pleaded not guilty. There was no objection to bail and he was offered bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same amount, which he was able to meet. The case was adjourned for November 28, 2017.

A third charge founds its way to Talbert with an old incident stemming from March 4, 2017 when he used obscene language against PC Francis Gonzalez. He pleaded not guilty and was offered bail in the sum of $200 plus one surety of the same which he was able to meet. Talbert is due back in court for the using obscene language charge on October 24, 2017.
