Daniel Magdaleno, a 41-year-old resident of Ladyville, was taken to court on Thursday September 7, 2017 after he was accused of wounding his estranged common-law-wife during a misunderstanding. Magdaleno appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Aretha Ford where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Since it was his first offense for such a charge, Magistrate Ford imposed a non-custodial sentence where he was fined $600 to be paid by November 30, 2017 in default of 6 months’ imprisonment.

The victim, Antonia Cal, reported to the police that on August 24, 2017, she went to her friend’s house to check if she had received food pantry and while there, she got into a verbal misunderstanding with Magdaleno who was sitting in the yard. She decided to leave when he told her that he was intoxicated. As she turned to leave, he hit her in the head and then once more in the face. She started bleeding as a result and called for police assistance. Her injuries were classified as wounding by a doctor.
