On September 8, 2017, police of the Rural Quick Response Team stormed into the home of 28-year-old Jake Cadle, a resident of Crooked Tree Village, where they found 2 bags of cannabis under a Lasko Fan in his room.

Cadle spent the beginning of his birthday in lock down and after being processed, he was brought to be arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Cadle who was unrepresented appeared before Magistrate Sharon Fraser in court where he was read a single charge of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another person or persons for the purpose of drug trafficking. He was found with 132 grams of cannabis.

Cadle pleaded guilty to possession and not to drug trafficking. The guilty plea was accepted by Magistrate Ford who imposed a non-custodial sentence where he was fined $800 to be paid by November 30, 2017 in default of 6 months’ imprisonment.
