Bandits Sports blank Verdes FC in Premier League competition Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize 2017-2018 Opening Season Football Competition continued over the last weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Friday 8th September, 2017, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Police United FC edged out the Belize Defence Force FC by the score of 2-1.

The host team Police United FC, was the first to get onto the scoreboard when Daniel Jimenez scored the 1st goal of the game in the 21st minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The first half of the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Police United FC.

The Police United FC took the lead well into the second half of the game until Victor Moralez was able to penetrate the defence and scored the equalising goal for the Belize Defence Force FC in the 68th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

Both teams played defence that did not give up any more goals to either team until the 89th minute of play when Orlando Jimenez scored the go-ahead goal for the Police United FC squad. At the sound of the long whistle it was indeed a 2-1 victory for the Police United team.

The competition continued on Saturday September 9th with two more games on the schedule. At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the defending champions Bandits Sports blanked Verdes FC by the score of 1-0.

The only goal of the game was scored by Kervin Johnson in the 80th minute of play to give Bandits Sports the victory.

Meanwhile, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, Placencia Assassins edged out the visiting Freedom Fighters FC by the score of 2-1.

The visiting Freedom Fighters FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Joel Cabral scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 2nd minute of play to give it an early lead.

However, the host team Placencia Assassins was able to tie the score at 1-1 when Rollin Burgess scored the equalising goal in the 20th minute of play. Alexander Peters then scored the go-ahead goal for the Placencia Assassins in the 27th minute of play to give his team the 2-1 victory.

And then on Sunday 10th September, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, Wagiya FC won over the visiting San Pedro Pirates FC by the score of 4-3.

The San Pedro Pirates was the first onto the scoreboard when Hazael Requena scored the 1st goal of the game in the 3rd minute of play to give his team an early lead. The San Pedro Pirates lead was extended when Aloisio Texiera scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 5th minute of play to give it a 2-0 lead.

The Wagiya offence came alive when Byron Chavez scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 9th minute of play to cut the deficit to 1 goal. Chavez then went on to score his team equalising goal in the 33rd minute of play to tie the score at 2-2.

Wagiya then took the lead when Horace Avila scored the go-ahead goal in the 43rd minute of play to give his team a 3-2 lead. The first half of the game ended 3-2 in favour of the host team Wagiya.

In the second half of the game, Wagiya picked up where it had left off when Dion Burgess scored the 4th goal of the game for his team in the 60th minute of play for a 4-2 lead. However, the San Pedro Pirates was able to cut the deficit to a single goal when Jordi Craft scored his team 3rd and final goal of the game in the 69th minute of play.

At the end of regulation time, it was a 4-3 victory for the host team Wagiya.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule.
