On the first day of the working visit, the delegation met with the National Immigration Agency where topics such as immigration policy, border protection, and human trafficking were discussed. A courtesy call was made to the Embassy of Belize where the contingent met a group of Belizean students enrolled in universities in Taiwan. A roundtable forum was held where issues such as crime, economic development, and foreign trade in Belize were addressed. Hon. Peyrefitte stressed the importance of maximizing the opportunities afforded to the students and harnessing that knowledge and experience to become nation builders in Belize.

On day two, the team held briefings with the Social and Family Affairs Administration in the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, and the Workforce Development Agency in the Ministry of Labour. Subject matters included but were not limited to, women’s rights, gender equality, poverty alleviation, prosecution practices, and employment rates.

A luncheon was hosted by His Excellency Ambassador Jose Maria Liu, Vice Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he thanked Belize for its “everlasting friendship” and words of support by Hon. Wilfred Elrington in his address at the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Hon. Peyrefitte in his remarks as head of delegation stated, “It was a pleasure at the United Nations to reiterate our support for Taiwan. Taiwan has been a friend, continues to be a friend, and will always be a friend to Belize. On behalf of the people of Belize, the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, and the Government of Belize, I would like to express to you once again our support for Taiwan.”

A courtesy visit was also made to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Taiwan, H.E. Su Jia-chyuan. Before returning to Belize, the delegation will meet with representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Examination, and the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration. Hon.
