The first ever TechExpo in Belize is a two-day event at the Best Western Biltmore Hotel on September 27 and 28, 2017. At the event, which was powered by Belize Telemedia Limited, 17 businesses showcased their products and services to the general public and anyone else that attended. According to Ingrid Juarez, Senior Public Relations Representative, BTL, the purpose of the expo was to show the public what BTL, a telecommunications company, has to offer as it pertains to the latest in technology trends as well as bringing together local, regional, and international companies with the same purpose in mind.

While the purpose of the expo was to display technological developments, there were companies such as security providers and environmentalists that took part in the two-day event. Any company that is able to utilize technology in delivering their services was welcome to register to be a participant.

Champion Security, the Central Information Technology Office, Central Cable Vision, the Belize Tourism Board, Atlantic Bank, COURTS, and Fultec Systems were only a handful of the companies that held booths. On day one of the event, LXJ Code Belize also had a booth. LXJ, a group of three bright young men that hail from Corozal, participated in the CANTO Regional competition and won the competition earlier this year. The young men, Joe Roches, Main Developer; Michael Sabido, Developer; and Luis Aguilar, Graphic Designer; are dedicated to designing software. They are currently working on school platforms to benefit the Corozal Community College, Corozal Junior College, and Independence High School.

Apart from the main exhibitions, there were also presentations by Ismael Quiroz, Director of Economic Development, CITO, and Sebastian Cabrera, Systems Consultant, Dell EMC. Cabrera’s presentation focused on the transformation of information technology to become more efficient, predictable, and business agile.
