No one has owned up to starting a tire fire on the southern approach of the Haulover bridge outside of Belize City. At 5:30 on Wednesday morning, fire officials and police were alerted to the fire of burning tires strewn across the highway. Quick response by the authorities had the fire extinguished and allowing for the free flow of traffic within an hour.

Now while the setting up of fires on highways has now become a norm for the way Belizeans demonstrate, this one was simply set for absolutely no reason and no one or a reason has  yet been identified for doing so.

Apart from inconveniencing the early morning commuters in and out of Belize City, the fire was pointless and caused damage to the highway. Luckily that portion of the highway will soon be repaired as the upgrade to the Philip Goldson Highway is moving apace.
