Students at the University of Belize will now have a chance to be a part of a new scholarship program starting August 2017. The University has partnered with the Protected Areas Conservation Trust to implement a scholarship program designed to assist the National Protected Areas System and the sustainable development goals of Belize. A Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate the execution of the program was signed by Professor Emeritus Clement Sankat, Ph.D, President of the University of Belize and by Percival Cho, Ph.D, Board Chairperson , PACT.

Starting August 2017, students have a choice between 5 Bachelor’s Degrees scholarships which are each valued at $50,000 yearly. Applying students should be accepted in either of the following programs: Natural Resource Management, Biology, Information Technology, Mathematics, Tourism Management, Business Management, Social Work and Public Sector Management.

Through the program, PACT will be engaged with the scholarship recipients through internships and site visits within the Protected Areas Management network as well as other partner organizations. UB will play its role through book grants as well as mentorship which gives them the opportunity to monitor the progress of the student.

UB President Sankat pledges to “ensure that this partnership between PACT and UB advances the developmental goals of Belize through the training of high level human resources, committed to the sustainable development of Belize.”
