Dorian Sutherland, a 31 year-old father of 2 who’s also known by the nickname “Sonny”, was shot and killed, allegedly by a friend in an evening fight. The two reportedly had an argument which ended violently.

Sometime at around 5 o’clock on Monday, October 2, Sutherland was reportedly sitting down at the car wash at the corner of La Croix Boulevard and Police Street. He would also earn a living there on the days when he was not working jobs in construction.

It is not certain at this time what the content of that argument was, but the shooter pulled out a gun and shot him once in the face. Sutherland reportedly got up and ran away from the car wash, even though he was seriously injured. Trying to get away from his assailant, and to get help, he made it as far as an alley off the intersection of Police and Linda Vista Streets. That’s where his injury took it’s toll; he collapsed and died at that location.

Police will have to determine why he was shot and killed, but persons in the neighborhood suspect that it may have been over marijuana. They say that they have one person of interest that they are looking for at this time.

Sutherland was the breadwinner of his family from Police Street. He leaves behind his common-law wife and 2 young daughters, a 3 year-old, and a  4 month-old.

His common-law wife made a rather revealing comment about her loss. She said, “4 years we are together, and it doesn’t matter what we go through we do not leave each other’s side until that day which was yesterday and I just wanted to be there for the last time even if I had blood on me I just wanted to hold him for the last time.”

One interesting note is that he was detained at the Raccoon Street Police Station earlier that day, and shortly after his release, he was shot and killed.
