Daniel Carrillo, a 42 year-old resident of Temash Street in Orange Walk Town, was shot to death by a gunman, who reportedly ambushed him from behind.

Police say that the incident happened at around 1 o’clock on Sunday morning, October 8, 2017, on Mopan Street, which is a short distance away from the home of his parents. Police say that he was walking when someone came up behind him and shot him several times. It is believed that he may have gotten a phone call before he left his workplace, where he was socializing with friends and family.

His brother, who asked not to be named, told the press, “…he decided to go to the shop. That was around 1-1:15 in the morning, Sunday morning, and he just didn’t say where he was going. He placed his phone on the table, and he went to the Chinese Shop. When he was coming back, we don’t know if he get into an altercation, but it looked like the guy just rode by, and shot him 9 times on the left back part of his body, his head, and his back. He fell, and the guy just rode off and went.”

His family reportedly found him on the ground suffering from these multiple gunshots, and they rushed him to the Northern Regional Hospital. About 20 minutes later, he died while undergoing treatment.

His family has told the press that they have no idea why he was gunned down. From their perspective, he was easy-going and he had no problems with anyone, as far as they knew.

Concerned about the police’s ability to catch Carrillo’s killer, his brother told the press, “Most of the time, they don’t find the culprit, always, they do their stuff, and they just stay like that, but we are not looking for no retaliation or nothing like that.”

From Carillo’s brother’s perspective, the gunman, like any human being, has a conscience, and that this shooter will have to carry the weight of Carrillo’s death with him.
