Keith Middleton, another resident of the Jane Usher Boulevard area, was killed in a shooting at his yard. He’s the fourth member of the Jane Usher boulevard neighbourhood to be murdered in 2 months, and this is the third time he’s been injured by gunmen.

On Monday, October 16, 2017, at around 7:30 p.m. the 31 year-old was at his home on Mud Street, socializing with a friend when an unknown shooter opened fire on him and injured him multiple times.

Middleton’s mother, his son, and other children were inside their house at the time, and his mother told the press about the seven shots she heard. She said that as soon the sound of gunfire alerted her, she made sure to secure the “babies”. Moments later, she found her son on the steps of the house with gunshot injuries to the face and other parts of the body.

He died right inside his yard, and even though police arrived shortly after the incident, all they could do was to process the scene of his killing.

Middleton appears to have been struggling with misfortune for quite a number of years. He was released from prison only a few weeks ago, after being charged with wounding and aggravated assault. His common-law wife accused him of stabbing her multiple times with a screw driver. The then Chief Magistrate remanded him, and he was only released on bail at the end of August.

Before that, he was shot twice in 2010, once in October, and another time in November. In the first incident, Middleton was standing at the corner of Faber’s Road and Central American Boulevard. He was talking to another man when 2 gunmen opened fire on them. In that incident, he was injured in the leg. In the second incident, he was shot inside his home on Levi Slusher Street. In that attempt on his life, the gunman actually knocked on the door and shouted for him. He opened the door to see who it was, and that’s when the shooter forced it all the way open, and shot him in the chest. He recovered from both those incidents, but his mother believes that the same gunmen may have come back for him on Monday night. He also received death threats the week before.

Middleton was a construction worker, and according to his mother, he was very careful not to be seen out in public for fear of being targeted.

He leaves behind a 1-year-old son.
