On Thursday, October 12, 2017, Shelmadine Neal, a 21-year-old unemployed resident of Victoria Street, appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser in the Belize City to answer to a charge of theft. Neal appeared barefooted and dirty before the magistrate and claimed that she got into a fight with the family of the complainant on the way to court.

The allegations against Neal are that on September 26, 2017, Neal dishonestly appropriated a 50” LG flat screen television, 3 X-Box consoles, and 3 X-Box games, all to a total value of $2,742. In a police report, Landeisha Myvette, 20-years-old, reported that Neal was staying at her home for a week after which Neal disappeared and she noticed some of her household items were missing. A police investigation was launched and Neal was arrested and charged for theft.

In court, Neal, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Since there was no objection, bail was offered in the sum of $3,000 plus one surety of the same which she was able to meet.
