The village of San Juan/ Cowpen has recently benefitted from the expansion of electricity in the village as well as the paving of its main road and is again a beneficiary of works by the government. They have now received much needed work in the area of flood mitigation.

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) began excavating and cleaning drains to facilitate the free flow of water, pertinent in these times of excess rainfall. These works are being supervised by Keith Emmanuel, Southern Regional Coordinator, NEMO; David Cruz, Stann Creek District Coordinator, and other Ministry of Works personnel. Direction on the ground is also being provided by San Juan/Cowpen Village Chairman Carlos Peraza and Councillor Abby Blades.

NEMO is presently working on a countrywide flood mitigation program and have previously worked in Corozal, Belize, Cayo, and Toledo.
