The life of 42 year-old Sydney Lamb, a resident of Oleander Street in Belize City, was cut short by gun violence. The victim was shot and killed while on his way home, and his family suspects that he was robbed by either the gunman, or someone else after he was fatally injured.

Sydney Lamb, or “Belly”, as he was also known, went to a shop on Casuarina Street at around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, October 21. He had only just purchased a few items, and while he was heading home, a gunman rode by on bicycle and shot him. Reports are that his assailant got off his bicycle, and shot Lamb several more times before leaving.

He was fatally injured to the head and the body, and at this time, his family believes that he was robbed. He reportedly left his workplace, Cox Tire Shop, with several hundred dollars of winnings from the gambling matches he was a part of. His family and friends fondly remember his love of gambling, which is done regularly at Cox Tire Shop.

His Aunt told the press, “He loves his cards; he loves his gambling. He loves his dice.”

It is estimated that he walked away from the gamble area with over a thousand dollars cash. After his fatal shooting, none of that money was recovered, leaving his family to suspect that the shooter robbed him after he collapsed from the attack, or that first responders relieved him of his cash.

Robbery is the only motive his family could think of as to why Lamb became a target. They assert that he stayed far away from any sort of street life. He spent most of his time with his Cox Tire Shop friends.

Of important note is that Lamb’s cousin, Shaquawn Almendarez, was shot and killed about 22 hours later. So, this family grieves the loss of both men, as well as the violent murder of Shaquawn’s older brother, Jason Almendarez, who was shot and killed on October 10, 2017. He leaves behind 3 children.
