The recent spate of crimes in Belize City has given rise to concerns and rightly so. The cause has been attributed to the drug trade. For the most part the killings have been confined to the members of the underground community. There have been instances however where innocent bystanders have been caught in the crossfire. This situation has reached unacceptable proportions and a move is being made by the police to address it immediately.

Today the top brass, including the Commissioner, all his Assistant Commissioners, commanders of Specialized Units and the Minister of State responsible for Police, Hon. Elodio Aragon held a strategy meeting on how to deal with this spike in murders in the immediate/short term. Other plans are being designed to deal with the situation in the medium and long term.

The public is being asked to actively assist the Police by reporting crime and by not interfering with the Police in the execution of their duties.
