Belize Defence Force Captain, Eric Neal has completed a year of studies at the National Defence University in the U.S. Neal told the Guardian that he enrolled for the course on the 8th of July 2016 and graduated on the 8th June 2017. In a release from the BDF it states that, “He also obtained honours for his thesis entitled “Managing Indigenous People in Belize: Guaranteeing Security and Rights for All”. Furthermore, Captain Neal’s high level of academic performance was reflected in his cumulative G.P.A of 3.89.”

Captain Neal says the training he received “prepares the individual with the knowledge and skills to be an effective advisor to policy makers on all matters relating to Strategic Security. The core of the degree centers on Combatting Terrorism and Insurgency through understanding grievances of minority communities. The managements of those grievances should prevent them from escalating to radicalization.”
