A police officer, PC Carlisle Bol, was detained by another officer outside of the Elements Night Club on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Bol got engaged in an argument with another man and an on-duty officer thought that Bol was armed with a knife but that object turned out to be a gun.

PC Bol appeared before Magistrate Aretha Ford on October 30, 2017 where he was read a single charge of keeping firearm without a gun license. In court, where PC Bol was represented by attorney Leeroy Banner, he pleaded not guilty to the charge but due to the nature of the offence, he was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until January 21, 2018.

According to the police report, Cpl. Chub was working inside the Elements Night Club when his attention was drawn to PC Bol who was among a group of other men. PC Bol and one of the men were pointing at each other’s face over a spilled drink. PC Bol was asked to step outside and while doing so, Cpl. Chub observed his right hand in his pocket and when he pulled it out, he saw a shiny object which he assumed to be a knife. A search was conducted with the help of another officer, Cpl. Ruiz, which led to the discovery of a .22 caliber long rifle. Given that he did not have a license for the firearm, PC Bol was escorted to the Queen Street Police Station where he was officially charged.
