Corporal Mateo CarRillo, Sergeant Julio Shal, and Constable Jose Uh, and Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo have been awarded for their good police work. These 4 officers were responsible for solving an armed robbery at the First Stop Pawn Shop in Belmopan.

In less than 72 hours, these four cops managed to recover 95% of the stolen items from that robbery. Readers are aware that 3 armed thieves robbed the manager and her employee of $8,500 in cash and an assortment of jewelry at a value of $51,000.

It was due to good police work and a helpful community that allowed Carrillo, Shal and Uh from the Belmopan Police station to work with Cowo from Belize City to neatly wrap up the case with the arrest of 3 people.

For their efforts, the Bull Frog Inn treated them to lunch on Wednesday, November 1, a meal which they shared with the Belmopan Police Commander, Senior Superintendent Howell Gillett, and Police Commissioner Allen Whylie. They were also given a certificate, and a gift of $150 cash, courtesy the Scotia Bank’s Belmopan Branch.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Police Commissioner Allen Whylie said, “The work they did is just a testament to the many good work that is being done around this entire country by police officers who are committed and dedicated. And whilst we are not able to publicly recognize each of those officers, I want to say that their work does not go unnoticed by myself, and it certainly does not go unnoticed by the victims of crime countrywide. But, today is the 4 officers, Mr. Cowo, Mr. Shal, [Mr.] Carrillo, and [Mr.] Uh. And I am pleased to be here with them to tell them thanks.”
