HelpAge Belize, a non-governmental organization (NGO), which  partners with other agencies, businesses and individuals to improve the lives of older persons held its 33rd Annual General meeting (AGM) in Belize City on October 28, 2017. The event brought together representations from its eleven branches countrywide. There was a total of 61 attendees, of which 38% attended for the first time.

The theme for this year’s annual general meeting, “Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of Older Persons in Society”, coincided with that of the International Day of Older Persons.  The thematic area emphasized Belize’s need to tap into an often overlooked and under-appreciated resource that is imperative for sustainable development, the contributions of older persons.  Remarks were delivered by the Mayor of Belize, His Worship, Mayor Darrell Bradley, HelpAge Belize’s Patroness  Maria Elena Sylvestre and Chairman, Evan Dakers.

Elections were also held for a new Board of Directors, Regional Representatives and Residential Home Representatives.  New Members of HelpAge Belize’s governance structure are as follows:
